Privacy policy

This page explains what happens to information when you visit rosterslots.co.uk. It is written to be read rather than to be defended in court, so it says plainly what the site does and does not do.

Who runs this site

RosterSlots is an independent publication run by one person. It is not a company and it is not part of a media group. There is no office and no phone line. Everything goes through one address: [email protected].

What we ask you for

Nothing. There is no account to create, no newsletter to join, no form to fill in and no comment box. We do not ask for your name, your email, your age or your location, and there is nowhere on this site to give them to us even if you wanted to.

If you email us, we have your email address and whatever you put in the message, for as long as the thread is useful. That is the only personal data we hold on purpose.

What happens automatically

Three things happen without anyone asking, and you should know about all of them.

Server logs

The web server records each request: the page, the time, your IP address, your browser’s user agent string and the page you came from. This is how any web server works, and it is what makes it possible to tell a broken page from a working one. These logs rotate and are overwritten.

Cloudflare

The site sits behind Cloudflare, which serves pages from a location near you and filters out automated traffic. To do that Cloudflare sees your IP address, and it sets a cookie called __cf_bm that distinguishes people from bots. That cookie is Cloudflare’s, not ours, and it is a security measure rather than a tracking one. Cloudflare’s own privacy terms cover what it does with the data.

Nothing else

There is no Google Analytics on this site, no Facebook pixel, no advertising network, no heatmap recorder, no session replay and no A/B testing tool. Fonts are served from our own server rather than from Google Fonts, so loading a page does not tell any third party you were here. We do not build a profile of you, because we do not have the parts to build one out of.

Demo games are the exception, and only if you press play

This is the one place where a third party gets involved, and it is deliberately under your control.

A game demo is a piece of software belonging to the studio that made it, loaded inside a frame on our page. We do not load it when the page loads. The demo sits there as a still image and a button, and nothing is requested from the studio until you press that button.

Once you do, the studio’s server sees your IP address and your browser details, and the game may store data in your browser to remember its own settings. At that point you are dealing with the studio directly, under their terms and their privacy policy, and we have no visibility into it and no control over it. The page tells you which company you are about to connect to before you press.

If you never press play, no game studio ever knows you were on the page.

Links to gambling operators

Some links on this site may go to gambling companies. Where such a link is commercial, it is labelled. Following one takes you to that company’s site, where their privacy policy applies, and the link may carry an identifier that tells them we sent you. It does not tell us who you are.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to it being processed. Given the above, the realistic answer to most such requests is that we hold nothing beyond a server log entry that has probably already been overwritten, but ask and you will get a straight answer.

Children

This site is for adults. Nothing here is aimed at under-18s and we do not knowingly hold data about anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the honest signal.
